submission guidelines

As of July 2018, we are no longer accepting submissions via e-mail. Please submit your work via our submittable page, linked below.

Submissions are currently OPEN in all genres: poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and visual art.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

We do accept simultaneous submissions but encourage you to leave a note via submittable if any pieces you submit to us are placed elsewhere. Only use the "withdraw" function if you need to withdraw your entire submission. We will offer you our congratulations and a firm handshake.

We do accept multiple submissions in all genres, just don't overdo it (i.e., don't send us your entire manuscript).

We do accept, and welcome, translations and co-/multiple-authored works so long as all appropriate permissions have been granted.

We do not accept previously published material (this includes works published online and social media).

We do not accept submissions via post or e-mail. If you have questions about these policies, don't hesitate to contact us.

A note on fees: during our first year of operation, we offered free submissions via gmail. The most frequent request from our submitters and editors, however, was to consider using Submittable instead, which we, as writers ourselves, understand is a vastly preferable platform. We charge a nominal $3.00 submission fee per submission. After fees, we receive $1.86 of that. This helps us pay for our Submittable subscription. You may also opt for a $5.00 donation submission, of which we receive $3.76. Thank you for your support.

We aim to respond to all submissions within three months.

GENRE GUIDELINES

Poetry: Please send no fewer than three and no more than eight poems, in one document. Use a standard font: Garamond, Ariel, or Times New Roman. No minimum or maximum page or word count. Include your name and e-mail address in the header of each page. We welcome all poetry styles, including formal poems and long-form poems.

Fiction: Please send one story of up to 5,000 words at a time, or up to three stories of up to 2,000 words each at a time. Use a standard font: Garamond, Ariel, or Times New Roman. Hybrid, short-, short-short-, and flash-fictions are all welcome. Include your name and e-mail address in the header of each page.

Nonfiction: Please send one essay of up to 5,000 words at a time, or up to three essays of up to 2,000 words each at a time. Use a standard font: Garamond, Ariel, or Times New Roman. Hybrid, short-, short-short-, and flash-essays are all welcome. Include your name and e-mail address in the header of each page.

Photos: Please send us up to 10 photos at a time. There are no specific content requirements, just show us what you've got. Please make sure they are low resolution (72 dpi). Upon acceptance, we will inquire about higher-res versions.
